How Often Should You Detail Your Car?

There's no single right answer, but there is a right question: what's actually wearing on your car between details? Here's how to figure out a schedule that fits.

How Often Should You Detail Your Car?

“How often should I get my car detailed?” doesn’t have one universal answer, because it depends on how the car is used, where it’s parked, and who’s riding in it. What it does have is a useful way to think about it: separate the maintenance question from the deep-clean question.

Maintenance washes: every 2–4 weeks

If your car sits outside, gets driven daily, or picks up pollen, road salt, or bug splatter regularly, it needs more frequent attention than a deep clean schedule alone provides. That’s what our Quick Detail is built for — a quick vacuum, hand wash, wheel and tire cleaning, bug removal, and a month of wax, priced to book on a recurring biweekly or monthly cadence rather than as an occasional treat. Recurring customers get our best rate specifically because staying ahead of grime is cheaper than removing it once it’s set in.

A full deep clean: every 3–6 months

A Base Detail — deep vacuum, steam cleaning, leather and upholstery treatment, crack-and-crevice cleaning, engine bay — is the reset that a maintenance wash isn’t designed to be. It combines full interior detailing with a hand-washed exterior detail in one visit; see the pricing page for exact rates by vehicle size. How often you need it depends heavily on a few factors:

  • Kids or pets in the car — crumbs, hair, and spills accumulate fast, and steam cleaning is what actually lifts them out rather than just moving them around. Every 3 months is realistic here.
  • Daily commuter, no kids or pets — every 4–6 months is usually enough to stay ahead of general wear.
  • Rarely driven / garage-kept — you can often stretch to twice a year, since there’s less contamination building up between details.

Signs you’re overdue, regardless of the calendar

Dates are a guideline, not a rule. A few signs it’s time regardless of when you last booked:

  • Water stops beading on the paint and starts sheeting instead — a sign the wax layer has worn down.
  • Interior odors that a quick wipe-down doesn’t touch.
  • Visible grime in door jambs, cupholders, or seat rails.
  • Dull, flat-looking paint even after a wash — worth reading our piece on paint correction vs. a regular wash if that’s what you’re seeing.

If you want to stop thinking about it

The honest fix for “how often” is to put it on a schedule and let it run. Our maintenance plans exist for exactly that — book a frequency once and we handle the rest, at the best rate we offer. Full package and add-on pricing is on the pricing page, and we run these schedules regularly through Wake Forest and Apex along with the rest of the Triangle.

Your car deserves only the best.

Pick a service, pick a time, and we handle the rest — right in your driveway.
